Alas, the fall 2001 kickball season is over.

It did, however, go out with a bang with the conclusion of the playoffs, the all-star games and the end of season party.

For the first time in MUSA history, the champion was determined via the Saturday tourney. It was the first Thursday versus Friday competition with Yin division champs Electric Mayhem facing Al's Goofy Bastards.

Al's picked up the semifinal win 7-2. At the same time, Los Super Gatos and Butt Kickin Fools were locked in a fierce battle between Black and Tan. Los Super Gatos pulled that one out 3-1.

The following all-star games were packed full of excellent plays and zany (yes, zany) characters, including Mike Brenner, the Slow and Smooth Ape. Tan bested Yin 8-3 and Black beat Yang 4-3.

This all set the stage for the endgame for the Golden Lunchbox.

Fox Six's Tim Perry did the honors of rolling out the first pitch before a raucous crowd.

In a close defensive battle, Los Super Gatos took the game and the Golden Lunchbox from Al's Goofy Bastards as Gato Tim Schultz hit a two run triple in the top of the extra inning. The defense held and Los Super Gatos celebrated.

Coach Nelly of the Bastards did promise Al's would be back next year and would not be happy with the Silver Thermos.

A bit of MUSA history...Dave Ragan and Tom Patneaude of the Gatos become the first two players to have had the honor of hoisting the 'Box.

Afterwards, it was off to O Briens were the Bike Rack Bullies Band and the Jamesons rocked the house and end of the season awards were issued.

Ryan Erickson of Gimme Your Lunch Money took home the home run title with 8 dingers on the season.

Funnel Kings and the Misfits split the spirit award, and perhaps not coincidentally finished one/two in the O Briens pitcher race.

Some of the pictures from Friday have been added to musakickball.com, but expect the rest added on this evening. If you have any pictures you would like on the site, feel free to send a hard copy or email in jpg format and I will add it on!!

Fox Six did a brief teaser for next weeks kickball story by showing some highlights of the championship game. In case you missed it, I do have it on tape.

Basically, a nice boot by Scott Hoene of the Bastards, followed by to shameful man-bunts by Gato Jamie Wangerin and Bastard Dave Burkle. Hang your heads, gentlemen! Just kidding. Anyways, the full story will air on Fox Six next Sunday during the nine o clock news, so get your VCR's ready.
